He received his medical degree at the University of Sydney and trained in both Sydney Children's Hospital in Randwick and Westmead Children's Hospital. His experience working at more than a dozen paediatric and neonatal units across New South Wales included specific training in a diverse range of paediatric conditions including allergy, sleep medicine, complex feeding issues and eating disorders.

Dr Whelan is committed to achieving the best possible care for each child and their family in the critical first 1,000 days of early development. Each child is unique and grows up in a family that plays a crucial role in their physical and mental health. Dr Whelan takes the time to get to know each child and family to fully understand their concerns. He has experience working in multidisciplinary teams with schools, speech pathologists, occupational therapists and other health professionals to ensure the best outcome for each child.

As a hands-on father of three young children, Dr Whelan understands the challenge of raising independent and resilient children.
